Edema and vegetarian

A lady patient who is very active came to see me for swelling on the legs from the middle of week.

She told me that she has started to have edema after changing her diet into vegetarian.

When I explained her that it might be caused by protein deficiency, She was convinced.

Generally, vegetarians tend to run out of protein.

It is famous that they don’t have enough vitamins like B9 and B12.

But also if they don’t take enough protein, their body can’t produce albumin made from protein.

It controls water retention between outside and inside our tissues.

I could improve water retention with acupuncture, but I also realized that acupuncture was only a temporary improvement unless I pointed out underlying malnutrition and they notice their problem and change their diet.
